This exquisite seated statue from the Islands of Leti in eastern Indonesia serves as a representation between the living and the dead. These figures are locally named Yene.
The Yene serves as a vessel in which the spirit resided temporarily before moving to the land of the dead. The spirits frequently return to receive offerings or to be consulted for major events.
All pieces are traditionally handcrafted which is why no two pieces are the same. Each has a slight difference in size, shape and/or color contributing to the uniqueness and originality of each beautiful piece.
This magnificent statue measures 180cm in height, stand inclusive.
