An exquisite piece, this hand-carved mask from the island of Sumba is made following the traditional techniques using Jackfruit tree wood. The mask is believed to symbolise the gods in traditional ceremonies.

Rather than being worn on the face, the masks are attached to large ceremonial costumes or hung in or outside ceremonial houses. The symbolism of masks range from categories representing ancestors, the tribe, spirits or family with deeper connotations.
All pieces are traditionally handcrafted which is why no two pieces are the same. Each has a slight difference in size, shape and/or color contributing to the uniqueness and originality of each beautiful piece.
